How to use coping saw properly to cut our pencil topper's mid layer:

🤔
Blade perpendicular
Blade is held perpendicular (90°) to the wood for straight, accurate cuts.
Thickest piece
The thickest plywood piece is used for the middle layer of the pencil topper.
Rectangle cut
A tight rectangle is cut out to fit and hold the pencil firmly.
Rectangle cut 2
Start by cutting the big triangle, then the smaller one, so the blade has more space to cut the bottom of the rectangle.
Cutting shapes
Cut close to the vice so the piece is held firmly.
Sanding space
Leave a little space from the pencil line so you can sand to the final shape later.
Sanding space 2
You can draw dash lines to remind yourself to cut away from the actual pencil line of the shape.
Multiple cuts
Do multiple smaller cuts. Don't cut the whole shape out in one go.

Using coping saw to cut pencil topper mid layer

I place the blade (1) against the edge of the piece. They always form a 90 degree angle. So I can cut the front and back of the piece (2) shape and prevent the blade from getting (3) as I cut deeper.
Out of the 3 plywood pieces for making the pencil topper, I cut the middle piece first, which is the (4) and must have a (5) rectangle space for fitting and holding my (6) firmly.
To cut out the rectangle properly, I cut the (7) first, then the (8). I will then have more (9) to cut the remaining bit.
I cut a bit (10) the pencil line of my shape so I can (11) to it later.
I do (12) shorter cuts that are relatively straight instead of cutting my shape in one go.
When doing curved cuts, I cut (13) and turn (14) to not get stuck.
